About Presbyterian Women

Westminster Presbyterian Women (PW) was started back in 1955 when two groups, the Women's Missionary Society and the Women's Christian Service Leagues (Ladies Aid Society) joined forces.  Following is the purpose statement:

Forgiven and freed by God in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves:
To nurture our faith through prayer and Bible study,
To support the mission of the church worldwide,
To work for justice and peace, and
To build an inclusive, caring community of women
That strengthens the Presbyterian Church, USA
And witnesses to the promise of God's kingdom.

Westminster's PW has four Circles, three of which have a Bible study along with fellowship and support and one of which is a sewing circle.  Each circle meets once a month and the four circles at Westminster are the Baker Hudson Circle, the Harmony circle, the John Hyson Circle and the Louise Brandon Sewing Circle.  The circles are open to any women who would like to attend.  The meeting days, times and locations are:

Baker-Hudson Circle - Francine Taylor, Moderator - meets on the 3rd Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the church library.

Harmony Circle - Eulie Bing, Moderator -  meets the 2nd Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the church library/lounge area.

John Hyson Circle - Pauline Maurer, Moderator- meets the 2nd Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at members' homes.

The Sewing Circle - Kerry Nickless, Moderator - meets the 1st Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in the gold door room.

The Westminster PW group has a coordinating team, made up of moderators of each circle along with officers elected to serve the full group.  That team meets monthly to determine activities, coordinate needs, identify fund raising opportunities, determine which missions we are able to support, makes sure the mission pledges are collected and sent to the Presbytery, and that the two special offerings, the Birthday and Thank offerings are collected and sent to Presbytery, all of which go to fund special projects, both nationally and internationally.  This group also plans the annual women's retreat, open to all women of the church.

Each year we have the opportunity to select someone for the Light of Christ Award, which recognizes leadership, service to the church, service in mission projects and nurture of others within our church.  In addition, each quarter we are able to participate in a Gathering.  A Gathering is hosted by different churches within the Presbytery and is open to all women of the Denver Presbytery, and provides an opportunity for lunch, fellowship, a program and a business meeting.

PW provides an opportunity for Bible study, for fellowship and support, for love and laughter and for outreach for a variety of missions.
